Android Headlines recently made an interesting comparative study between Samsung Galaxy S7 and OnePlus 3T in terms of various features.
Both handsets have some similarities just as much as they are different from each other. While the Galaxy S7 has been in the market for quite some time now, it is still considered as the manufacturer’s flagship device as of date. On the other hand, the 3T is an enhancement over its OnePlus 3 predecessor.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 comes sized 142.4 x 69.9 x 7.9 mm and weighs a little more than 150g. On the other hand, the OnePlus 3T has a size of 152.7 x 74.7 x 7.35 mm and has a weight of nearly 160g. Thus, while the S7 is not as big as the 3T in terms of length, it is a tad thicker. However, the Samsung device is not as heavy, making it easier to hold or keep in your pocket. As for the body material used, the Galaxy S7 features a combination of metal and glass. On the other hand, the OnePlus smartphone has a metal unibody. Additionally, Samsung has taken pains to make its offering water and dust resistant. With respect to color, once again the S7 presents you with more choices than the 3T.
On the display front, there are a few major differences worth noting. The Samsung handset has a 5.1-inch QHD Super AMOLED screen with a 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution and a 577 ppi pixel density. As typical of any of the manufacturer’s devices, the screen has an ‘always on’ functionality. This helps users to save battery life by not having to turn the main screen on to check the time, date and other key notifications. The OnePlus device has a slightly bigger Full HD Optic AMOLED display screen of size 5.5 inches. Pixel resolution and pixel density are set at 1920 x 1080 and 401 ppi respectively.
For its snappers, the Samsung Galaxy S7 has a dual pixel 12MP rear snapper that features optical image stabilization and auto HDR as its key highlights. On the front, this gadget has a standard 5MP camera supporting live HDR and high quality selfies even in low lighting. The corresponding shooters in the OnePlus 3T translate to a primary 16MP LED flash camera supporting optical image stabilization with a sapphire lens and a scratch-resistant lens cover, and an impressive secondary 16MP shooter for great selfies and video chats.
As for the hardware setup, Samsung offers two configurations depending on where you buy your smartphone. If you buy it from the United States, your handset will feature a 64-bit quad core Snapdragon 820 processor. Two of these cores clock at 2.15 GHz whereas the other two clock at 1.6 GHz. The same Galaxy S7 sold in other parts of the world uses an octa core Exynos 8890 processor with half of the cores ticking at 2.3GHz and the other half at 1.6GHz. However, both variations have 4GB RAM and 32GB fast UFS 2.0memory that you can enhance to 256GB memory with a memory card. The OnePlus 3T uses a slightly more recent dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor with 2.15 GHz and 1.6 GHz clocking frequencies. The RAM is also higher than in Samsung with a value of 6GB. As for internal storage, you can opt for either a 64GB or a 128GB internal storage device. In either case, the memory is non-expandable.
Both gadgets operate on Android’s Marshmallow version that comes preloaded. The 3T additionally incorporates the manufacturer’s OxygenOS. With S7, you can opt for both Samsung Pay and Android Pay to swipe your debit or credit card and make mobile payments. OnePlus makes use of a NFC chip and a fingerprint sensor to enable its Android Pay services and allow you to make payments with just a finger swipe.
Both have non-removable batteries though the 3T has a bigger one. The Samsung gadget has a 3,000 mAh battery supporting quick wireless charging and Quick Charge 2.0. The OnePlus 3T comes with a 3,400 mAh battery and fast charging capability due to its Dash Charge functionality. This feature helps your drained 3T battery in attaining 60 percent charge in just half an hour.
The winner is without doubt Samsung Galaxy S7 as it has overall better features than the OnePlus 3T although the latter is better in terms of RAM and selfie camera. Some reasons why the S7 gets a better score is dust and water resistance, Quad HD screen, expandable memory and wireless charging.
