There have been rumors that the Apple iPhone 8 could debut with lots of design changes, similar to the new Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+. However, the price of this overhauled design and new features will be expensive, with the phone rumored to be priced at over $1000.
If you though the Apple iPhone 8, if this rumor materializes, will be the only high-end device in 2017 to be priced at over $1000, well, you are wrong. Apparently, there’s a high-end version of the bigger Samsung Galaxy S8+ that is going to be exclusive to China. Like the Apple smartphone flagship, this variant has been slammed with a price tag of about $1030.
This is indeed a massive price tag for a smartphone, but given the powerful hardware specs that this variant of the Galaxy S8+ brings to the table, some might say it’s worth it. Unlike the standard models, the premium Galaxy S8+ packs a massive 6GB RAM and twice the storage available on the entry-level models.
According to reports coming from South Korea, the 6GB/128GB variant of Samsung Galaxy S8+ will be available in Midnight Black and as noted earlier, it will only be sold in China. The main reason for having a 6GB RAM variant for the Chinese market is due to the competition in the local market. Here, there are quite a good number of smartphones that are already packed with 6GB RAM and these don’t include the highly successful OnePlus 3 and 3T, all of which have 6GB RAM and 64GB or 128GB storage.
Samsung Galaxy S8+ will now join the Galaxy C9 Pro as the only Sammy devices with 6GB RAM, but the story is not the same for the smaller Galaxy S8, which only gets 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The rest of the specs remain unchanged, but placing a pre-order for the $1030-rated Galaxy S8+ will also earn you a free Samsung DEX that is priced at about $150.
