The entire world has moved from flip phones and clamshell design to rectangular models whereas China still loves Samsung’s flip phones.
The company earlier launched the W2017 flip phone last year and has now come up with a new model which will be exclusive to the cellular operator China Mobile.
While the company has named it as Samsung G-9298, the Chinese audience call it the Leadership 8. In terms of specifications, the phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor which is quite outdated in other countries but not in this region. The manufacturer has largely focused on the camera quality of the phone with unique features. It sports a 12 megapixel camera with a much wider f/1.7 aperture whereas the front is dominated by a 5 megapixel camera with f/1.9 aperture.
All the features found in the latest mid-range and flagship models can be easily spotted in the newly launched Samsung Leader 8 which is exclusively available to customers in China. There is hardly any word on the phone getting launched in other countries because clamshell and flip designs have lost their popularity in almost every region. Most users opined that these phones end up showing issues in a short time due to the flipping nature while others simply didn’t like the cramped design it had.
The new model features Samsung Pay and supports fast wireless charging while the fingerprint scanner has been moved to the rear. It helps maintain the design aesthetics of the phone maintaining a clean front design albeit having thick bezels. The flip design offers two different touchscreen displays, both featuring 4.2-inch displays. The AMOLED screens sport a 1920×1080 resolution making them extremely sharp, vibrant and great to look at. After all when you cram so many pixels into such a small 4.2-inch display, it is obviously going to look awesome. The smartphone features a much smaller 2,300 mAh battery, customizable hot key and provides an always-on display.
The Leadership 8 which is a China Mobile exclusive device will definitely pique the interest of most buyers in other regions. Flip phones are uniquely stylish to look at which is why they became extremely popular a couple of years ago but later lost its popularity owing to practical issues.
