Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth Edition Certified as Mi 8 Lite by IMDA in Singapore

Xiaomi has confirmed that it will be unleashing the Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth Edition smartphone in China on September 19.

The device has already been certified by TENAA agency in China as well as National Communications Commission (NCC) in Taiwan in the recent weeks. The TENAA listing had revealed that the model number of Mi 8 Youth Edition is M1808D2TE whereas the M1808D2TG model number had surfaced through its NCC listing.

Today, the M1808D2TG model number has also surfaced on the website of Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) regulatory body. It is interesting to note that the name of the phone is mentioned as Mi 8 Lite at IMDA, and not as Mi 8 Youth.

Chinese manufacturers are known for launching toned-down version of its flagship phone as Youth Edition since they are aimed towards the youth in China. The notched screen Mi 8 flagship phone was launched with Snapdragon 845 SoC, but the Mi 8 Youth Edition is expected to arrive with Snapdragon 710 and a notched display. It appears that the Mi 8 Youth Edition will be made available as Mi 8 Lite in certain markets outside of China.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is expected to arrive with a 6.26-inch LCD notched screen with 19:9 aspect ratio and FHD+ resolution. It may feature up to 8 GB of RAM and an internal storage of up to 128 GB. In order to attract the youth, the handset will be equipped with a stellar 24-megapixel AI equipped selfie camera for capturing impressive selfie shots. The back panel of the phone features a fingerprint scanner and 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel horizontal dual camera setup. It may come packed with a 3,250mAh battery. The handset is rumored to be available in China with a starting price of 1,999 Yuan ($290).
