Xperia Z5 Marshmallow Updates Start Rolling Out: Here’s the Current Status

Xperia Z5 and Z5 Premium Marshmallow

As U.S. customers are still getting acquainted with the recently-availed Sony Xperia Z5 smartphone, the company has begun rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates.

On a separate occasion, Sony Mobile UK had previously tweeted that Xperia Z5 Marshmallow update will be rolling out this coming March 7, which is actually next Monday. As far as Sony Xperia Z3+ is concerned, the Marshmallow update has already been certified.

The Xperia Beta Program

Last year October, Sony began the Xperia Beta Program that targeted those with Xperia Z3 and the Z3 Compact. Those who joined this program were able to access and test the latest mobile operating system – Android 6.0 – on their devices and provide Sony with feedback. The beta program saw up to 10,000 people get registered, something that meant Sony had quite some reasonable feedback.

At the moment, the Xperia Beta Program also accommodates those using the slightly older Xperia Z2; however, the beta update is limited to certain countries, among them the Netherlands, the UK, Spain, Germany, Ireland, Denmark, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden. Apparently, Sony will be rolling out the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to a range of Xperia Z series devices currently running on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop and Android 5.0 Lollipop, this skipping Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update.

Xperia Z5 Marshmallow updates currently available in Japan, coming to other regions soon

Apparently, the current Sony Xperia Z5 Marshmallow update has just been spotted in Japan – the company’s home country. This was actually expected, however, there is still no word of when this update will be getting out of Japan. The update is available for all three variants of the Xperia Z5 smartphone.

The update is available to users of this device on NTT DoCoMo carrier and carries build number 32.1.F.0.43. Despite the lack of concrete information about when this update will be coming to the U.S., the fact that it has begun rolling out in Japan and it will be heading to the UK this coming week makes us believe that it won’t be long before it comes in the country.

With the Xperia Z5 Marshmallow update, you will enjoy core features like Google Now on Tap, Doze mode battery management as well as enhanced app permissions’ management, among others. Obviously, with Sony having been with this Android M OS since last year October, they’ve played around with it. You will see a new Xperia Home launcher and a generally changed user interface. You can now configure icons in the notification area. It is also possible to use simple swipe gestures on the camera app when moving between modes.

Other Sony devices that will be receiving the new Android Marshmallow update include Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia M4 Aqua, Xperia M5, Xperia C4 and Xperia C5 Ultra.
