2018 BMW i8 Roadster

Instead of giving spy photographers the joy of capturing these photos, the automobile brand has officially released spy shots of the 2018 BMW i8 Roadster giving us a good look of how the car would look when it gets launched.

The car will hit dealership stores next year but the team has been consistently releasing videos and photographs to keep the people interested in their upcoming models. While the promotional materials released so far didn’t give a good overview, the newest spy shot reveals the official capacity of the car. BMW has also shared a video on social media which shows the upcoming i8 Roadster covered in camouflage. Some of the iconic design elements of the car including the doors that open upward that adds a strong touch of style to the car has been retained.

The first ever version of the Roadster was revealed this February and ever since then the surprises keep coming. The car sports a stylish convertible roof mechanism that the engineers at BMW had exclusively developed for the convertible i8 variant. It is made possible by the folding fabric targa top which will automatically roll back in within a compartment on the backside. In other words, they have made the most stylish offering of them all without making it look odd.

A couple of changes can be spotted in the hard top variant of the upcoming Roadster but they are so subtle that you won’t be able to notice them at all. Besides, designing a hard top variant is easier compared to a convertible for which designers have to provide aerodynamics, weight balance and driving experience when the top is folded back.

BMW has a strong interest in introducing a convertible version of the 2018 i8 Roadster. Compared to the concept versions showcased so far, the coupe version is much more toned down and sports two bold haunches on the sides. Under the build, the car is powered by a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine. It is a plug-in hybrid powertrain which is capable of delivering up to 375 horsepower. The i8 Roadster will significantly expand the company’s lineup allowing them to have a hybrid sports car in 2018.

The 2018 BMW i8 Roadster is equally sophisticated on the interior, including the BMW iVision Future Interaction Concept powered dashboard. It provides gesture control to access features, has a large 21-inch screen and connectivity options. A couple of changes may be done when the final production version hits stores.
