BMW has a pretty large lineup of hybrid cars that the brand plans to showcase during the 2017 New York City Auto Show scheduled to take place next month.
The automobile brand is going to have a strong focus on plug-in hybrid variants which are the most preferred choice of cars in 2017. While there is still time for fully electric and autonomous vehicles to hit the stores, BMW is focusing on showcasing their best iPerformance models including the 530e, 740e, 330e and couple of other latest cars that are slated for launch in the near future.
The highlight of the show will be the mid-range BMW 530e iPerformance model which is powered by a 4-cylinder gasoline engine. The powertrain delivers 241 horsepower with 310lb feet of torque and has an acceleration capability to touch 60mph in 6.1 seconds. The electric motor is not groundbreaking though as it offers a meager 15 miles on full charge before kicking in the gasoline powered engine. The 2018 530e iPerformance will cost $51,400 for the base model and should be available in the United States in Spring.

For those who aren’t constrained by a budget, the BMW 740e iPerformance XDrive is the flagship car to go for. Powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, the model has a massive output of 322 horsepower and the powertrain is matched with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. The flagship model is also equipped with BMW Twinpower Turbo technology for increased performance. It’s hybrid electric motor allows up to 14 miles with a top speed of 87 mph.
While the electric motor is not the best in its class, the car is truly a flagship model made with lightweight carbon fiber reinforced plastic and is equipped with a wide range of semi-autonomous driving as well as connectivity options. The 740e will hit stores in the United States after the 2017 NYC auto show reveal carrying a price tag of $90,700. The pricing doesn’t include delivery charges and buyers have to pay the additional cost based on their location. The lower end BMW 330e iPerformance produces about 248 hp with 310lb feet of torque. The car is priced at $44,100.
