Asus ZenFone 4 Variants (ASUS_Z01KD, Z01KDA) Running Android 9 Pie Found in Geekbench

Two separate Geekbench listings of Asus ZenFone 4 (ZE554KL) variants with Android 9 Pie have been spotted.

This indicates that the Taiwanese tech giant is testing the latest Android version for the ZenFone 4 and it may rollout anytime soon.

The Asus ZenFone 4 was introduced with Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS onboard. In October, it was treated with Android 8.1 Oreo update. The Geekbench listings of the ZenFone 4 with Android 9 Pie OS update shows that the Taiwanese firm is gearing up to release last major software update for the ZenFone 4.

The Geekbench screenshots show that the ZenFone 4 variants Z01KD and Z01KDA that respectively feature 4 GB and 6 GB of RAM have been spotted with Android 9 Pie. The 4 GB edition of the phone was launched with Snapdragon 630 whereas the 6 GB RAM variant was launched with Snapdragon 660. In the first screenshot, the processor seems to be incorrectly mentioned as sdm660.

Asus Zenfone Max 4 to be treated with Android Pie Soon

Asus ZenFone 4 models spotted today are not the only models to be treated with Android 9 Pie. Asus ZenFone 4 Max with model number X00IDB has also been found with the new software on the benchmarking site. The exact release timeframe of the Pie update for the ZenFone 4 and ZenFone 4 Max models have not been confirmed yet.

Android Pie for Asus Zenfone 5, Zenfone 5Z and Zenfone Max Pro M1

Now that Asus has released the Android 9 Pie update to ZenFone 5, it appears that the company will prioritize on rolling out the latest edition of Android to ZenFone models that were released this year.

The ZenFone 5Z flagship phone and the newer ZenFone Max Pro M2 are scheduled to receive the Android 9 Pie update in January 2019. The ZenFone Max Pro M1 will be treated with Android Pie in February next year. Hence, it appears that the ZenFone 4 and ZenFone 4 Max models could be treated with Android 9 Pie by the end of Q1 or in Q2 2019.
