Joining the league of smartphones that will soon receive the Android Pie upgrade is the Asus Zenfone 4 Pro (ZS551KL) as evidenced by its appearance on Geekbench with its moniker ASUS_Z01GD.
Now that the phone has been submitted for benchmarking with the upgraded firmware, the release to the device may be just weeks away. The firmware upgrades are normally accompanied by enhancements in the device’s performance and fixing bugs reported through feedbacks. Asus has a long list of its models that have been marked as ‘eligible’ for receiving the upgrade to the Android Pie OS.
Other Asus ZenFones to be Upgraded to Pie
As mentioned, Asus has sent out a long list of Asus smartphone models that are eligible for the firmware upgrade. Asus ZenFone 5, Asus ZenFone 5Z, Asus ZenFone 5 Lite (5Q), Asus ZenFone Max (M1), Asus ZenFone Max Pro (M1), Asus ROG Phone, Asus Zenfone 4 Pro, Asus Zenfone 4 ZE554KL are the only phones that are likely to get the Android Pie. There are many other models that have been left out.
The gaming model, Asus ROG Phone, has also been seen on the Geekbench site with the new OS. A couple of models, the Asus ZenFone 5 and 5Z have already received the firmware upgrade in December 2018 with a few other models expected to receive in January 2019. We can expect the Android Pie updates for Asus Zenfone 4 Pro (ZS55KL) and Asus ROG gaming phone probably in Q1 2019 for sure.
Asus Zenfone 4 Pro Security Patch Updates
A couple of days ago, the Zenfone 4 Pro received the January 2019 security patches that assured improved system performance. The version number for the update is ZS551KL_JP_15.0410.1812.95. Since it’s an FOTA update, it may take a few days for users in different countries to get the update. You can keep checking for notifications in your phone or try downloading the firmware from the official website by following the steps listed here.
Asus ZenFone 4 Pro Specifications
Released in the fourth quarter of 2017, the Asus ZenFone 4 Pro (ASUS_Z01GD) is a 5.5 inch display phone that is fitted with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC processor as the CPU and 6 GB RAM for support. The onboard storage is available in 2 variants, 64 GB and 128 GB. The dual SIM phone has a hybrid slot for a micro-SD card to enhance storage. A dual camera setup featuring a 12 MP and 16 MP sensors. The front camera for selfies is an 8 MP one. A 3600 mAh battery is fitted under the hood to power the phone.
This phone was released with Android Nougat 7.1.1 out of the box and has already been upgraded to Android Oreo. Since it has received only one major OS upgrade, it’s not surprising to see the device slated to get another major OS upgrade to Android 9 soon. Stay tuned for more updates.
