The Mercedes Benz S-Class W222 is getting facelifted with improved performance and some minor exterior changes.

The car has been in the testing for a while now and the company is finally ready to launch it in an auto event next month.

A couple of spy photographs emerged in the past based on which it is known that the car is’t going to undergo any major design changes. The W222 facelifted edition is the sixth generation refresh that boasts of renewed bumpers and new light setup to provide a stylish outlook. However, at first glance, the Mercedes Benz S-Class car will look a lot like the outgoing model. The major upgrade is being done under the hood with new engine setup promising much better performance.

Under the bonnet, the Mercedes Benz S-Class W222 is powered by a revised 3.0-liter M256 inline-six engine. A more powerful variant of the car will be using a 4.0-liter V8 M176 engine. The improvisation continues with turbo four and six cylinder oil burners that are already being used in the W213 S-Class model. The changes are also geared towards making the car electric motor friendly. Making fully electric cars is part of Mercedes’ future plans and the newest models set for launch this year will lay the foundation for other cars set for launch after 2019.

Apart from these improvements, a range of autonomous capabilities and safety features are integrated in the vehicle. The car is equipped with Remote Parking Pilot, a handy feature that most drivers who find it tough to find a parking spot in cranked corners would like to use. It also uses an Active Brake Assist system which has the capability to scan the road for other vehicles and the brakes will automatically be applied in case a collision is inevitable.

Drive assist features found in the Mercedes Benz S-Class W222 facelifted edition includes active speed limit assist, evasive steering assist, semi-autonomous lane change assist and couple of other features. The entire design is made to make the car fully autonomous in the next few years. The goal remains the same for all top automobile manufacturers to create fully electric, autonomous cars by 2020 to revolutionize the way people commute. The W222 facelifted edition is expected to get launched in the Shanghai auto expo or the New York International auto show, both of which are set to take place in April.
