The much-rumored Oppo F5 with a 6-inch full HD+ resolution is no longer a mystery, but it’s real and is now available in the Philippines.
Since Samsung’s much-highlighted switch to near bezel-less designs with full-view display screens, many other OEMs were expected to join the party, especially those from China. Well, Oppo hasn’t wasted any time in doing so and thanks to the Oppo F5, fans of the Chinese OEM can now have a bezel-less smartphone of their own at a much more affordable price than any of those flagships from Samsung or LG.
Oppo has made its name thanks to selling phones that target selfie lovers. In fact, the success of the Oppo F series has been based on photography and the Oppo F5 doesn’t stray from this strategy. If anything, the phone does everything to cement the company’s position as the go-to option for selfie lovers.
As pointed out, you get a 6-inch display screen with 2160 x 1080 pixels resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio, just like the LG G6 and LG V30, among others. As a result of this change, the fingerprint scanner has moved to the back, but if this is too much of a hassle, there’s a face unlock feature as well. The back has a 16MP lens with a huge f/1.8 aperture while the front gets a massive 20MP unit with a slightly smaller f/2.0 aperture.
Oppo is also introducing the new AI-controlled beautify mode, where selfies captured will be automatically tweaked to give you the best possible shots. Here’s what the company had to say:
With more than 200 positioning spots, the F5 accentuates your facial landmarks and contours to enhance the symmetry between features like your eyes, nose, cheekbones and jawline to create the perfectly refined and natural selfie. Its beauty-iris tool ensures that your eyes will shine brighter in any photo.
The Oppo F5, like the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, supports the Portrait Mode for selfies, a feature that blurs the background and puts more emphasis on the subject. As for the rest of the specs, the phone packs a MediaTek Helio P23 SoC, 4GB RAM, 32GB of expandable storage and a decent 3200mAh battery unit. There’s also a high-end variant with the same specs, but the RAM and storage are bumped to 6GB and 64GB, respectively.
The Oppo F5 is selling in the Philippines priced at 15,990 PHP, which translates to about $310. Other markets will soon be able to buy the F5, but the exact dates are still unknown.
