Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, Tab S4, Tab A 10.5, Galaxy S9 and S9+ get Verizon Security Patch Updates

A number of Samsung devices including flagships such as Galaxy S9 and S9+ have received software updates from Verizon last week.

Almost all the updates relate to updating the latest Android security patches. The security patches from Android are all dated February 1, 2019. The details of the update versions and some brief specs of the devices are as below:

Samsung Galaxy S9 and Samsung Galaxy S9+

These two phones have been in the market for more than a year and are considered high-end and the Samsung Galaxy S9+ is the 2018 flagship device from Samsung. Galaxy S9 has a 5.8 inch display and the S9+ display size is slightly higher at 6.2 inches. While the processor is the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC or the Exynos 9810 SoC, the RAM is 6 GB and 4 GB in the S9+ and S9 respectively. The battery sizes too vary. Verizon has mentioned that it is only the Android security patch that is part of this software update on both these devices.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A (10.5)

As you would have guessed, the 10.5 in the Galaxy Tab A 10.5 represents the display size of this Samsung tablet. Having been released in September 2018, the Samsung Galaxy Tablet Tab A (10.5) had received one system update from Verizon in November last. However, Verizon calls this current software update too as System Update 1. The tablet has a screen resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and has thin bezels. The processor on this tablet is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC and the RAM 3 GB. It is sold in different variants in terms of Wi-Fi and LTE versions.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S4

This is also a tablet with a 10.5 inch display and is a premium device with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC processor and 4 GB RAM. There’s a Super AMOLED panel with a screen resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels. There is the S Pen as well. A large 7300 mAh battery powers the device. Buyers do have th choice of the LTE and Wi-Fi only versions.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2

This is a 9.7 inch display tablet from Samsung sold by Verizon in the US. There is a 1.8 GHz processor that powers this device and the battery size is 5870 mAh.

Besides these devices, two more Samsung devices too received updates from Verizon, namely the Samsung Galaxy J7V and the Samsung Galaxy J7 (Prepaid).
