Xiaomi is known for its budget range of smartphones and the Redmi 5 is one among the many crowd-favorite models to look forward to.

The upcoming smartphone is affordable yet has an impressive specs sheet. The model has just acquired the Wi-Fi Alliance certificate which confirms that the device is very close to its launch date.

Every time a rumored device gets WiFi certified, it’s impossible to not get super excited as you know that the launch date is pretty much just days away. The Wifi Alliance’s official website always updates new phones as they get certified and it was a pleasant surprise to see Xiaomi Redmi 5 on the list.

Xiaomi was supposed to have made the announcement during the Mobile World Congress 2018 last month. The company skipped the expo and is now planning to host a grand event of its own to make the Redmi 5 official. The new Redmi phones are already available in China and the specifications are out. The Redmi 5 smartphone is expected to be launched in an event to be held in India on March 14.

While the new model will be available globally, the company is still focusing more on the Asian market. Rumors claim Xiaomi may soon bring their budget-friendly devices to the United States but it may take months before they focus on a new market. The global variant of the Redmi 5 will get launched with Android 7.1 Nougat but sources confirmed it will get upgraded to Android 8.1 Oreo with an OTA update.

When it comes to specifications, the Redmi 5 is an impressive device and would fit well within your budget. The phone sports a 5.7-inch display with a 720p resolution. An entry level Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor powers the device with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage space. You can also opt for another variant which has 3GB of RAM with 32GB of built-in storage space. The Redmi 5 has a 12-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front camera for your selfies. It is powered by a large 3,300 mAh battery which should last more than a day considering the lower processing speed and the less-demanding display.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 is expected to be priced approximately $120 which could roughly be converted to 8,000 INR in India. Latest rumors claim Xiaomi’s event is set for March 14th. The official pricing and availability of the device can be confirmed once the event takes place.
