The grand public debut of the supercar Audi R8 Spyder took place at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The model was showcased for the public for the first time and it looked every bit good as it was promoted so far from its earlier launch events.
Audi talked about the R8 Spyder V10 Plus earlier this month and it is great to see them bringing it to the Goodwood Festival of Speed so early rather than waiting for bigger car events to take place. The pre-orders for the vehicle begins as early as July 7th from which you will be able to get your own if you are willing to spend £147,020.
It is not just the manufacturer’s claim but the Audi R8 Spyder V10 Plus is easily the fastest convertible available in the market. Under the hood, it is powered by the most potent 5.2-liter V10 engine which allows it to render a cool 602 horsepower combined with 8,700 rpm. Audi has confirmed that their hyper car will be able to go from 0 to 62 miles per hour in just 3.3 seconds. The top speed has now been boosted to about 204 mph. The torsional rigidity of the car has been improved to provide better grip and stability on road at its top speed.
When the car goes into cruising mode, the built-in cylinder-on-demand technology allows the powertrain to automatically cut off one of the cylinders so that it can run on five cylinders. The coasting function allows the engine to just disconnect and maintain the speed once the driver stops accelerating at 34mph. There’s a start stop functionality to control the control making it highly fuel efficient and an easy drive.
The massive power generated by the V10 engine is evenly split by the Quattro all-wheel drive system mated to a seven speed dual clutch transmission setup. The total weight of the Audi R8 Spyder V10 Plus is confirmed to be 1,695 kilograms. Carbon fiber materials are used in abundance to reduce the weight wherever possible along with reinforced plastic and aluminium components. The roof takes about 20 seconds to completely fold open or close which can be done while the car is travelling at 31mph.
An aggressive and sporty look is provided for the Audi R8 Spyder with large carbon front splitter and gloss black grille finish. It uses large 19-inch aluminium wheels, has deep bucket seats and Audi’s virtual cockpit make the dashboard as futuristic as it could.
