The top gaming consoles of 2017, the Xbox One, the PS4 and the Nintendo Switch do have several exclusive features, but also come with major drawbacks.
These drawbacks could stand in the way of their success during the year.
Top Benefits and Drawbacks
The Xbox One offers the best quality of games, whereas the PS4 also offers several attractive and exclusive titles. As for the Nintendo Switch, it offers a lot of versatility.
However, all the three gaming consoles are not without their respective drawbacks. As far as the Xbox One is concerned, it does not offer too many exclusive titles. The PS4 has the PlayStation Network problems. The game lineup for the Nintendo Switch is rather weak at the time of its launch.
Xbox One 2017 Issues
Microsoft has released very few exclusive titles for the Xbox One, though the great games like Mass Effect: Andromeda, Battlefront 2 and some others will continue. However, there are no compulsive games like the Horizon Zero Dawn. The rest of the titles may not be up to expectations. Sea of Thieves is excellent, but those who want to play along may not enjoy this co-op type of gameplay. Crackdown 3 may not be that attractive to players and Halo Wars 2 lacks HDR support and implements microtransactions where players have to pay in order to win.
PS4 PSNetwork Problems
The PSN cannot be depended upon as it consistently lets down the gamer. The free games are also very few. However, the flash sales offer a good means of marketing the benefits of the PS Plus, but they are also not conducted well. Most of the free games consist of indie titles and they no longer release the AAA titles. Players can get access to multiplayer games released on holidays, but the PSN will either get hacked or just let your down. Flash sales are few and far between and the monthly far is below expectation levels. The network is regularly hacked or just not functioning.
Nintendo Switch Unimpressive
The lineup at the time of launch is unimpressive. The machine is excellent and offers hybrid functionalities. However, the lineup of games at launch time is lackluster and very few games are in the pipeline for the later part of the year as well. The lineup includes the 1 2 Switch, the Human Resource Machine, The Legend of Zelda, breath of the Wild, World of Goo and some others. The best game of the lot is probably Legend of Zelda available at the time of launch. However, none of the other games can match up to this quality. Some great titles, such as Super Mario Odyssey and Skyrim as well as Mario Kart are in the pipeline for release in 2017. However, it is quite possible that many of these games that come in after the launch could very well be postponed to the next year, that is 2018.
Though each of the gaming consoles do come with interesting and exclusive features, they do have their individual drawbacks, which could drag down their success in the market during 2017.
