You probably know about the already-released Oppo R9s smartphone. This device was first released in October 2016, but about a month ago, the Chinese OEM breathed new life into the phone by debuting a new red color variant.
The Oppo R9s Red Edition release coincided with Valentine’s Day, which was indeed a perfect timing for this all-red love celebration day. The Chinese were also enjoying their New Year festival, which is usually dominated by this red color. Well, it appears that the company has plans to unveil another color variant of the phone, this time a Green Edition.
According to a new leak, Oppo seems to be planning a release of a green colored R9s somewhere before this month comes to an end. The Chinese company has not said a thing about this phone and it is not known when (or if) exactly this phone will be making its debut. But as usual, the Oppo R9S Green Edition will be unveiled to the Chinese market before making its steps into other markets.
With the current Oppo R9s model going at a price of CNY 2,799, we don’t expect any change in the price of the green color variant. This finish, however, will be joining the already mentioned red color variant as well as three other variants – black, gold and rose gold.
The fact that the Oppo R9s recorded more than 17 million unit sales in 2016 is behind this continued push from the company. With this, Oppo hopes that more and more fans will be joining the party. Just to remind you, the R9s is a midrange phone that packs pretty impressive specs.
The phone ships with a 5.5-inch AMOLED screen with 1080p resolution and Gorilla Glass 5 on top. The processor running the show is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 and is paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. The back has a 16MP shooter with a large f/1.7 aperture, PDAF, LED flash and support for 4K video recording at 30 frames per second. The front has a similar 16MP shooter, but this one gets a smaller f/2.0 aperture, which is still top quality for a selfie camera.
The fingerprint scanner is front-mounted and to keep the phone going is a 3010mAh battery unit that supports fast charging technology. Software-wise, the phone has Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box and so far, there’s no word on when the update to Android 7.0 Nougat will be rolling out.
