Whatsapp for Android O Will Get Picture in Picture Video Calling Feature

Whatsapp

The developers of Whatsapp are working on a brand new and an interesting update for the app.

It should soon be able to support picture in picture video calling feature making it easy to use the app even when users are engaged in a video call.

The Whatsapp beta for Android version 2.17.265 will debut the feature but there is a catch as always. The particular PiP feature will not work on all phones and even on those latest devices running Android 7.0 Nougat operating system. It has been confirmed that it will work only on devices that currently run Android O developer preview and on future devices when they receive the update for the operating system.

Understanding this new feature is no big deal as it won’t drastically change the way the app would work but rather provide you something that makes video calling easier. Considering the number of messages everyone receives on the app, it is tough to engage yourself for hours in a call without having to reply to it. The possible option is to use Whatsapp simultaneously on your smartphone and the desktop version.

It may not be the most practical option of them all especially when you are not close to a computer while engaged in a call. The latest Android O version of Whatsapp will support PiP, picture in picture calling. When you are in a call, you have the option to minimize the window without occupying the entire screen. This will allow you to easily type and reply to multiple messages without having to disconnect the call.

The information comes from WABetaInfo and it is unclear whether the smaller window is a floating window. If it is floating, users will have the option to move it to any position on their display so that it doesn’t hinder them when they type. The screenshot released by the source shows a small window on the right hand corner at the moment. The ability to change the location of the minimized video call may be rolled out at a later date. This promotes better multi-tasking especially for business users who need them the most.

As with all other features released so far, this will be hidden and most people won’t be able to access it for a very long time considering the fact that it works only with Android O operating system. There are hardly any smartphones that run on this upcoming Android OS and it might take months for PiP to be rolled out for video calling in Whatsapp.
